From the 29th of October until the 13th of November Maarten is recording a session in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York in the small town of Saranac Lake.

The main musician and songwriter for this project is Geert van der Velde working together with his drummer Marcel Wolthof and fellow songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kim Janssen. This session will also welcome some of Brooklyn’s finest up and coming indie musicians. Leo Maymind (Spanish Prisoners) and Peter Silberman (The Antlers) will grace our cozy cabin with their presence and creative force as well as many others...

The Black Atlantic is a Netherlands based, experimental pop unit fitted around singer / songwriter Geert van der Velde.

The Black Atlantic's music can best be described as a clash of introverted Nordic-ness with the exuberance of Western pop. Neither bending nor breaking but giving pass to one another. Soaring vocal harmonies, quiet piano or soft guitar plucking or loud and boisterious guitar laced with melancholy and introspective lyrics.
